This week (February 2011) I had the great pleasure of giving a short presentation on Long Beach's Bicycle Master Plan update to the middle school students of Jefferson Academy. We had a great response both to my request that the children map out their route to school on our maps, and that they autograph my faithful bike trailer.

The hamlet of Twin Lakes is at 9,200 ft. elevation on Independence Pass in Colorado. My family homesteaded some acres up the Pass when I was a kid, so I have an pretty deep emotional connection with these mountains. In 2006 I bought the Twin Lakes Nordic Lodge (blue roof in pic) and ran it as a hotel, restaurant and bar for two years. Twin Peaks are in the background. A great day hike up the spine.
