Twin Lakes, Colorado
Seen from Perry Peak, about 12K elevation, view is of upper lake and Twin Lakes Village. The Nordic Lodge is the blue roof building in the village. Perry Peak is a shoulder of Mt. Elbert and has a ghost settlement from mining days. Open mines still exist up a relatively smooth jeep trail.

Charlie and Maddy
You know what they say about a boy and his dog. Maddy was a loyal companion for 15 years. Always ready to go for a ride in the jeep, she would grin and wiggle and inspire me to go deeper into the woods and higher up the mountain.

Ice Diving
By February Twin Lakes ice is about 2 1/2 feet thick. Ice divers from the front range come up, cut a hole in the ice and dive in using full dry suits. Water is 150 ft. deep and about 33 degrees Fahrenheit. They are mostly getting under ice diving training for rescue operations. Some are simply crazy divers.

Ice Diving Hole
There is the legend of Phil Scott of Salida, Colorado who, in Feb. 1985, as mountain bikes where being adopted as the savior of the bike industry, Scott took one down under the ice in Twin Lakes. In full dry suit and with neutral balance, Scott mounts the mountain bike and flips upside down. He inflates his bc to be buoyant, then floats up to the underside of the ice mounted on his upside down mountain bike. He hits the ice and with positive buoyancy he holds to the underside and pedals away.
To my knowledge this trick has never been repeated. And if that is not enough bait...

Charlie's Goat Angels
You know what they say about a boy and his goats.
This herd is on Twin Peaks. Photo taken in November 2007. Encountering this curious characters at about 12,500' late in the day caused me to finish this mountain in the dark. One of the best pics I have ever taken.
They were sporting their winter fur which flowed in the wind. We stared at each other for about 10 minutes.
